We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to share our journey with you; a journey shaped by faith, growth, patience, and the unfailing grace of God. More than just a story about love, this is a testimony of what can happen when two people choose to let God lead every stage of their relationship. We believe that sharing our story and the lessons we've learned can inspire and encourage others on their own paths. We do not present ourselves as perfect individuals or as a perfect couple. Rather, we share an honest story filled with lessons learned, moments of uncertainty, growth through challenges, and above all, God’s unwavering faithfulness. Every chapter of our journey has reminded us that love is not sustained by emotions alone, but by intentionality, wisdom, and divine direction. This book is born from a 14-year journey that began with friendship, matured through courtship, endured seasons of waiting and testing, and was eventually refined into marriage. Through every phase, God remained the center of our decisions and the foundation that held us together. We hope that by sharing our experiences and insights, we can also help others build stronger, more purposeful relationships rooted in God’s guidance. In a world where many relationships are rushed, emotionally driven, or built without proper foundations, we have come to understand that lasting relationships are not accidental; they are intentionally built. Strong relationships require wisdom, communication, trust, and shared purpose. What is built well lasts longer, stands stronger, and reflects God more clearly. Over the years, we encountered moments that tested our convictions and challenged our faith. Yet, every challenge became an opportunity for growth and deeper trust in God’s plan. Looking back today, we can confidently say that every waiting season had a purpose, and every lesson prepared us for the life we now share together. This book is not written from a place of theory or perfection, but from real-life experience; experience shaped by prayer, guidance, healing, wise counsel, and divine intervention. We have witnessed firsthand that relationships thrive when they are rooted in God and nurtured with wisdom and intentionality. We pray that the lessons and principles we share here will serve as a source of encouragement and guidance for others seeking to build God-centered relationships. Throughout this book, there will be moments where we share certain experiences from our individual perspectives and personal lenses. In those moments, you will hear our voices separately. “Sunshine” is the special name Aanuoluwapo lovingly calls her husband; a name that reflects warmth, light, joy, and the comfort she finds in him. “Pétán” is the special name Greater calls his wife. It is a Yorùbá (a prominent language spoken primarily in South-West Nigeria) word meaning complete, wholeness, lacking nothing. As you read through these pages, you will occasionally encounter these names as we each share our thoughts, emotions, experiences, and lessons from our unique viewpoints. We believe this makes our story more personal, authentic, and relatable, while also showing how two individuals can experience the same journey differently yet walk together in unity, faith, and love. Within these pages, we will walk you through some of the foundational principles that shaped our relationship and strengthened our journey together. We will also share insights on navigating seasons of waiting with faith and patience, as well as building healthy communication within marriage. Additionally, we will discuss the significance of learning commitment beyond emotions, understanding the value of trust, respect, and spiritual alignment, and living with a shared vision and purpose. These principles have been instrumental in our journey, and we pray they will serve as guiding lights for others seeking to build relationships rooted in God's truth. Too often, people prioritize attraction over alignment, feelings over wisdom, and speed over direction. This book offers a different perspective; one centered on God, intentionality, accountability, patience, and purpose. Whether you are single, preparing for courtship, currently in a relationship, or already married, our prayer is simple: that your heart will be guided, your discernment sharpened, your faith strengthened, and your relationships built on foundations that can stand the test of time. We hope that, through sharing our lessons and experiences, you will be inspired to pursue relationships that honour God and stand the test of time. Above all, we hope this book reminds you that God is deeply interested in every aspect of your life, including your relationships.
