1. Copyright Ownership
Authors publishing books on Boldscholar retain full copyright ownership of their work.
Boldscholar does not require transfer of copyright. Instead, authors grant Boldscholar a non-exclusive license to publish, distribute, and commercialize the work in accordance with this policy.
2. License to Publish and Distribute
By entering into a publishing agreement, authors grant Boldscholar a non-exclusive, worldwide license to:
- Publish and distribute the book in digital and physical formats
- Host and make the book available on the Boldscholar platform
- Sell or license access to the book
- Convert the book into audio, visual, ePub or other text format
- Promote and market the work
- Archive and preserve the work
This license remains in effect for the duration of the publishing agreement unless terminated in accordance with agreed terms.
3. Distribution Models
Books on Boldscholar may be distributed under one of the following models:
3.1 Commercial (Default Model)
- Access to the book is restricted to:
- Paying users
- Institutional subscribers
- Unauthorized reproduction or redistribution is prohibited
3.2 Open Access (Optional)
Where authors choose Open Access:
- The book is made freely available online
- Published under a Creative Commons license, such as:
- CC BY (Attribution)
- CC BY-NC (Attribution–NonCommercial)
License terms are clearly displayed on the book page.
4. Revenue and Monetization
For commercially distributed books:
- Boldscholar retains a 30% commission on book sales or access fees
- Authors receive the remaining share as royalties
- Revenue terms are governed by the publishing agreement
5. Author Rights
Authors retain the right to:
- Be identified as the creator of the work
- Reuse content in future works, except the video generated version
- Share limited portions of the book for promotional or academic purposes
- Grant additional permissions, provided such permissions do not conflict with Boldscholar’s distribution rights
6. Licensing Terms for Users
6.1 Commercial Books
Users are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to:
- Access and read the book on Boldscholar app only (eBooks)
- Share with 3rd parties (Paperbacks)
- Own book copy for life
Users may not:
- Reproduce, distribute, or resell the book
- Use the content for commercial purposes
- Share access credentials
- Download eBooks on personal devices
- Print eBooks
6.2 Open Access Books
Users may reuse content in accordance with the applicable Creative Commons license, subject to:
- Proper attribution
- Compliance with license terms (e.g., non-commercial restriction where applicable)
7. Digital and Derivative Rights
Authors grant Boldscholar the right to create and distribute derivative formats of the book, including:
- AI-powered video adaptations
- Audio versions (audiobooks)
- Educational summaries and extracts
All derivatives will:
- Maintain attribution to the original author
- Preserve the intellectual integrity of the work
8. Third-Party Content
Authors are responsible for ensuring that:
- Any third-party material included in the book is properly licensed or used with permission
- Appropriate acknowledgments are provided
Boldscholar assumes no liability for unauthorized use of third-party content.
9. Anti-Piracy and Enforcement
Boldscholar reserves the right to:
- Monitor unauthorized distribution
- Issue takedown notices
- Pursue legal action where necessary
10. Archiving and Preservation
Boldscholar ensures long-term accessibility through:
- ISBN assignment and bibliographic registration
- Digital archiving systems
- Institutional and national repository partnerships
- Legal dopiest with the National Library of Nigeria
11. Legal Deposit to the National Library of Nigeria
Electronic copies of books uploaded on Boldscholar:
- Shall constitute legal deposits to the National Library of Nigeria
- Shall be made accessible, at no cost, within designated National Library of Nigeria reading centres
12. Termination of Agreement
Publishing agreements may be terminated:
- By mutual consent
- For breach of terms
- Under conditions specified in the author agreement
Upon termination:
- Boldscholar may retain archival copies
- Distribution rights may cease as agreed
13. Limitation of Liability
Boldscholar is not liable for:
- Unauthorized third-party use of the work
- Misuse or misinterpretation of content
- External distribution beyond its control
14. Governing Law
This policy is governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
15. Policy Transparency
This policy will be:
- Publicly accessible on the Boldscholar platform
- Incorporated into author publishing agreements
- Clearly referenced on book pages
