Verdant Verses straddles the private and public domain, it speaks to the individual and to the nation. It speaks of time-honoured values such as love, friendship and sacrifice. It speaks also of societal ills, paramount of which is poor leadership. Verdant Verses is pregnant with hope- hope of freedom at personal and social levels. Indeed, Usman Oladipo Akanbi celebrates the power of the word to rebuke, to reform and to redeem. The poems are free-flowing, full of imagery and folk wisdom. The poet, Usman Oladipo Akanbi lives in Ilorin.
