Asagba Azinge: Architect of Traditional Governance is a scholarly and interdisciplinary collection of essays that examines the transformation of African traditional leadership in the twenty-first century through the experience and leadership philosophy of His Royal Majesty, Asagba Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, SAN, OON, the 14th Asagba of Asaba. Moving beyond the conventional conception of the traditional ruler as a largely ceremonial figure, the volume explores the emergence of Traditional Governance as a dynamic model that integrates ancestral legitimacy with intellectual leadership, constitutional understanding, community development, social welfare, peacebuilding, cultural preservation, diplomacy and economic transformation. Across seven thematic sections, the contributors interrogate the foundations of indigenous governance, the Azinge Model, participatory community leadership, conflict resolution, institutional partnerships, cultural diplomacy, investment promotion and the future of traditional institutions in a rapidly modernizing Africa. The book presents Asagba Azinge as a “Scholar-King” whose reign demonstrates how traditional authority can evolve into a credible instrument of development, social cohesion and cultural resilience. It offers a significant contribution to contemporary discourse on African governance and provides a thought-provoking framework for reimagining the relevance of traditional institutions in Nigeria and beyond.
