The transformation of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) to the African Union (AU) at the sunrise of the 21st century marked the rebirth of a dying community of people. Yet it may not be an exaggeration to assert that majority of Africans do not understand what the AU is, or does. This book fills this knowledge gap. It participates in an ongoing conversation on the role of the AU in regional governance. The book focuses on some inter-dependent governance themes: political affairs, economic development, peace and security as well as justice and accountability.
