The book “Understanding Philosophy of Education” is presented in ten chapters to enable the author achieve the stated objectives. Chapter One deals with the concept of philosophy and the historical development of its Western version. Chapter Two deals with the broad concept of Education, while chapter three addresses the issue of Philosophy of Education. Chapter Four discusses some great philosophers of Western Origin and their Educational ideas. Chapter Five raises the issue of African philosophy, noting the contributions of some contemporary Africans to education. Chapter Six examines ‘teaching’ and other related concepts. Chapter Seven deals with some philosophical schools of thought and their educational implications. Logic and Education is treated in Chapter Eight while Chapter Nine analyzes the National Policy on Education (1981 Edition). Chapter Ten gives a historical exposition of the Philosophy of Education in Nigeria. I am strongly convinced that this book will be an asset to all who have access to it.
