Uju Peace Okeke is a Human Rights Activist, Lawyer, Gender Researcher, Reproductive and Sexual health Expert, Professional Negotiator & Mediator and Notary Public. She is a law graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, called to the Nigerian Bar in 2002. She obtained LL.M (specializing in Reproductive and Sexual Health and Rights) from the University of the Free State, Bloemfontein South Africa in 2007.

Uju has demonstrated uncommon courage in handling contentious civil and criminal matters, representing victims of sexual violence, domestic violence, gender based violence, illegal eviction, divorce based- violence, defilement cases, and other human rights violations on pro bono basis.  She employs her expertise in Alternative Dispute Resolution in assisting victims of human rights abuses who are averse to litigation due to stigmatization and culture of silence.

She has trodden uncommon paths, filing case on HIV/AIDS discrimination for a woman who was disinherited due to HIV/AIDS status, thus sharing in the stigma burden. To be of further help to PLWHAS, she simplified and distributes the Lagos State Anti Discrimination Law to PLWHAS.

She lends her voice to human rights issues through litigations, writings, paper presentations, radio and television discussions. She has published articles on women’s rights, children’s rights, rights of the elderly, other general fundamental human rights, politics, business, leadership, culture, etc.  She has participated in the drafting of Shadow Reports, Policies, Legislations Researches and the important documents serving as tools in different areas of human rights in Nigeria, an instance is the Nigerian report on Maternal Mortality used as an advocacy tool in CEDAW. 

Children are not left out in her works. She published a Pictorial Career Dictionary for children titled ‘When I Grow Up…Careers, Professions, Skills & More’ aimed at exposing children to the right influences to become their very best.

Her interest in helping People motivated her being a voluntary blood donor in Lagos State since 2006. She has won several awards as the most committed Female Voluntary Blood Donor in Lagos State.  She was named Woman of the Sun by Daily Sun Newspaper of 17/9/13 and Legal Personality of the week by This Day of 7/7/15.
