Abstract
The world is being driven towards the knowledge economy, and public libraries are changing from mere stores of books into vibrant and inclusive learning centers, which require a constant process of up-skilling. The paper discusses the future of Lifelong Learning in Public Library from the perspective of users with emphasis on the Imo State Public Library, Nigeria. A qualitative research design was used with in-depth semi-structured interviews with 8 diverse users of the library to assess their views, expectations and problems related to lifelong learning services. This study is based on the principle that user needs play an important role to ensure relevance of libraries in the digital age. It offers simulated thematic results, discussions, and recommendations to assist library policy makers in Imo State and other developing situations in moving towards user-oriented innovations in digital and skill development.
