Abstract
Rationale of the Study: The study explores work-drive channels as predictors of librarians’ commitment in the new normal: evidence from Nigerian academic libraries. The study examined the relationship between take-home pay, work recognition as work-drive channels and librarians’ commitment.
Methodology: The research design used in the study was correlational. 110 professional librarians from the seven (7) different federal universities in Nigeria's South-South Geopolitical Zone made up the study's population. The entire population was chosen as the study sample using the effective total enumeration sampling approach. A structured online questionnaire (Google form) was used to gather data. The Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (PPMC) was used to assess the data gathered for this investigation at 0.05 level of significance.
Findings: The study revealed that there is a significant relationship between take-home pay, work recognition as work-drive channels and librarians’ commitment. This infers that librarians’ commitment advances as take-home pay and work recognition increase.
Implications: Take-home pay and work recognition are important work-drive channels that significantly increase commitment. Hence, should be observed by libraries and the parent institution.
Originality: A key component of any organization is commitment, which this study addressed as essential for raising productive and quality library. This study presents new findings on work-drive channels as vital for eliciting librarians’ commitment at work.
Keywords: Work-drive channels, librarians’ commitment, take-home pay, work recognition
