Influence of Industrial Partnership Programmes on Work Readiness among Technical Education Students in Tertiary Institutions in Rivers State

Abstract

The transition of technology education students from class to work in recent years has become more challenging due to skill mismatch. Industrial partnership has been identified as a means of bridging the gap. This study was conducted to determine the influence of industrial partnership on work readiness of Technology Education Students. Two research questions guided the study; Descriptive survey design was adopted with population of 40 technology education students. A random sampling technique as adopted and a20 item questionnaire was used for data collection. The instrument was validated by three experts; Cronbach alpha reliability test was used after pilot testing which yielded overall coefficient of 0.82.  40 copies of the instrument were administered and retrieved. Descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions. The findings revealed that internship/ SIWES and Industry-sponsored research and projects progrmme influenced the work readiness of technology education students. The researcher concluded that; Institutions should partner with industries regularly through internship/SIWES and Industry-sponsored research and projects programme to better prepares students for transition to world of work after graduation.
