Abstract
Access to media platforms is a critical key for ensuring citizen participation in societal development. And how far citizens participate in the development of their societies is determined by how much access they have to available media. With social media, citizens have become journalists, and this new found role gives citizens the power to dictate and influence social discussion. This article explores how Nigerian youths have used social media and citizen journalism to organize and execute protests and social agitations in recent years. The article equally made useful recommendations on to better harness the possibilities of social media and citizen journalism to achieve positive change in Nigeria.
