Adoption and Use of Information and Communication Technology (Ict) by Lecturers in Universities in Katsina State

This study investigated the adoption and use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) by lecturers for academic activities in universities in Katsina State, Nigeria. The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors that influence the adoption and use of ICT for academic activities in universities in Katisina State, Nigeria.The study examined the types of ICT used, the perceived usefulness and percieved ease of use. The Technology Acceptance Model was employed to guide the study. Descriptive survey design was used and one thousand eight hundred and forty three (1843) academic staff constitute the research population. Data were collected using the questionnaire from two hundred and fifty-one (251) proportionally sampled academic staff. The findings revealed that ICT tools such as computers, internet, and Microsoft Office Suite are widely adopted,. However, advanced digital tools like learning management systems, statistical analysis software, and online learning platforms are less frequently used. The study confirmed that perceived usefulness and ease of use significantly influence the adoption of ICT tools, with academic staff expressing a strong intention to continue and expand their use. The study concludes with recommendations for enhanced training, better infrastructure, and improved institutional support to facilitate a comprehensive integration of ICT in academic activities. The study contributes to the growing body of literature on ICT adoption in higher education and provides actionable insights for policymakers, university administrators, and ICT developers.
