ASSESSMENT OF ATTITUDE AND USE OF TECHNOLOGIES FOR INFORMATION DISSEMINATION DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC BY LIBRARIANS IN BENUE STATE

The importance of the adoption of technological tools such as smartphones and computers in academic libraries cannot be over-emphasized in the era of covid-19 pandemic. This study which is focused on assessing the attitude and use of technological tools for information dissemination during the COVID-19 pandemic by librarians in Benue State was carried out adopting the descriptive survey research method. The population of the study was 100 and, data were collected using a questionnaire. Descriptive statistics such as frequencies, mean, and standard deviation were used in analyzing the data. Results show that technological tools such as cell phones, computers, and printers were available and used by all public academic library professionals in their information dissemination during the COVID-19 pandemic in Benue State. It further reveals that academic librarians have positive attitudes towards the use of technological tools for information dissemination during covid-19 pandemic while social media, blogs, websites, email, and SMS notifications constituted the channels of information dissemination. The study recommends that additional channels of information dissemination medium such as television, radio, QR codes, webchat, and other messaging apps should be used for enhanced information dissemination even in the post-COVID-19 pandemic era.
