Influence of Media for Effective Information Needs on Prostate Cancer Education among Men in the Church of Christ of Latter-Day Saints

This study was carried out to determine the influence of media for effective information needs on prostate cancer education among men in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Port Harcourt West Stake. It examines the information needs in the early detection of prostate cancer, and the media through which men can access information to educate them on prostate cancer. The researchers adopted descriptive survey design and two research questions guided the study. The population of the study consists of 1, 964 men out of which a desired sample of 400 men which was approximately 20%% of the entire population, selected through stratified proportionate sampling technique were used as sample size for the study. The instrument for data collection was questionnaire. The mean, simple percentages were used to analyze the data collected. The findings revealed that knowledge of early detection of prostate cancer is the best chance for cure and promote their chances of survival. The preferred media by men for effective propagation of prostate cancer information among them includes; Health Centre or hospitals, Town hall meetings, Radio broadcast and most especially face to face communication among others. The study recommends that as part of information, media awareness campaign, out reaches should be frequently organized, among others.
