Ai-infused Art Education for Lifelong Learning: A Culturally Responsive Framework for Nigerian Institutions

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) represents a transformative force in contemporary education, reshaping pedagogical approaches, cognitive engagement, and creative expression. This study examined the integration of AI into art education as a mechanism for fostering lifelong learning in Nigerian secondary and tertiary institutions, with particular focus on Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo. Anchored in constructivist, connectivist, and transformative learning theories, the research adopted a qualitative case study design. Data were collected through classroom observation, reflective journals, artifact analysis, and semi-structured interviews. Findings indicate that AI enhances creative adaptability, cognitive flexibility, self-directed learning, and culturally grounded artistic exploration. However, infrastructural limitations, algorithmic bias, and limited AI literacy among educators present challenges to sustainable implementation. The study proposes a culturally responsive AI–Creative Process–Lifelong Learning framework to guide educational policy and practice. Implications highlight the need for curriculum reform, teacher professional development, ethical AI governance, and integration of indigenous knowledge systems.
