Abstract
This study titled “effects of social media on secondary school students’ interest in teaching and learning of mathematics in secondary schools in Ebonyi state made used descriptive survey research design to achieving it objectives. The study has three research questions and two research hypotheses. The study made use of multiple sample techniques in getting 1,604 respondents (104 mathematics teachers and 1,500 mathematics students) for the study. The research questionnaire was subjected to both validation and reliability test and the all proved every much effective in delivering a reliable results. Results of the study indicts that, teaching and learning of mathematics on social media has both advantages and disadvantages. The advantages include among other things students perform better with the help of Social Media, Social Media makes students to recall and retain mathematics learnt and students liking to study/teach mathematics with the help of Social Media. Whereas the disadvantages include, social media not having positive effect on making students to understand mathematics better and didn’t contribute in the fastness in working/ solving of mathematics. There was significant difference in the opinion of students and teachers whereas there was no significant difference in the opinion of male and female on effects of social media on students’ interest in teaching and learning of mathematics in secondary schools in Ebonyi State.
