Abstract

The persistent funding challenges facing Nigerian tertiary education institutions have badly impeded their development and effectiveness. In consonance with the prior scenario in this country, wide-ranging concerns of the Federal Government to tackle this issue have not produced any impressing outcome. This study explores the potential of smart campus solutions to address funding issues, using Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo as a case study, with a view to informing policy and practice in Nigerian tertiary education institutions. A survey of 250 respondents, including staff, students, and management, was conducted using a structured questionnaire instrument. The data was analyzed using mean and percentage. Results show that implementing smart campus solutions, such as energy-efficient infrastructure and digital learning platforms, can significantly reduce operational costs and enhance revenue streams. The study recommends scalable smart campus models and policy support to address funding challenges in Nigerian tertiary education institutions.
