Political Crisis in West African States and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS)

Abstract

This study titled, “Political Crisis in West African States and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS)” was carried in West African States to determine ways to overcome the ever increasing crisis in the region. The investigation was descriptive in nature which made use of five thousand online and two thousand offline respondents for the study. The study has three research question and three research hypotheses. Three research questions were used to develop a total of eighteen items questionnaire which was subjected to both reliability and validation test and they all got a very high score.  The analysis of the score responses of the respondents shown that; Bad leadership, Unfavorable government policy, Greed and envy, Hardship and poverty and Illiteracy and low level of education are the cause of political crisis in West African States. The study also unveiled ways of solving/stopping the political crisis to include among other things, judicious implementation of people oriented policies, Carrying all citizens, Improvement of the academic level of the citizens it also suggested what should be the roles of Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to include; Sanctioning, suspending or even expelling country/State involved in crisis, Blocking all forms of supply of military material including arms and ammunitions from entering crisis country/State and Dialoguing with parties involved in the crisis. Only one of the research hypotheses has a significant value when tested under 0.05 significant level.
