Abstract

This study examines the extent of integration of open educational resources in teaching Social Studies in Universal Basic Education Schools in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria. Descriptive survey design was adopted. The population of the study comprised 97 Social Studies Teachers in UBE schools in Ikwerre Local Government of Rivers State. Census sampling technique was adopted for the study. All the 97 Social Studies teachers in Ikwerre LGA were used in the study. Self-developed questionnaire titled Integration of Open Educational Resources in Teaching Questionnaire (IOEDRTQ) was validated by two experts in Educational Technology and one Measurement and Evaluation from the Department of Educational Foundations, Rivers State University. The reliability coefficient of 0.92 was obtained using Pearson Product Moment Correlation formula. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer research questions while the hypotheses were tested using z-test. Results of the study revealed low extent of integration of open educational resources in teaching social studies in UBE Schools in Ikwerre LGA in Rivers State, Nigeria. There was no significant difference in the extent of male and female teachers’ integration of open educational resources in teaching social studies. Also, there was no significant difference in the extent of public and private school teachers’ integration of open educational resources in teaching social studies. It was recommended that Government and school authorities should ensure availability of internet services in information and communication technology centers to provide teachers access to open educational resources
