Abstract
This paper examines the socioeconomic conditions of the Nigerian current security challenges, as it attains 62 years of independence. The paper noted an increase in poverty and insecurity, as a result of the activities of bokoharam, bandits, kidnappers and unknown gunmen, across the geo-political zones. The paper examines the relevant provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (CFRN) and other Legal Frameworks on Poverty and Insecurity to ascertain the effectiveness of the framework in talking poverty and insecurity in Nigeria. In this regard, the paper aims to examine the challenges of poverty and insecurity in Nigeria and the factors causing the rise in poverty and insecurity. The paper adopts a doctrinal research method by analysing relevant primary and secondary data. The research recommends reviewing the CFRN and relevant Acts of the National Assembly to address the Nigerians social, economic and political challenges and to facilitate intelligence gathering and cooperation between the security agencies in Nigeria, amongst others.
