Abstract
Domestic violence is a serious social and legal problem that now receives increased global attention due to the struggle by women for equality and human rights protection. There is now attention on the immense harm done by domestic violence and the need to combat it. The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has incorporated various provisions against Human Rights Violation in its Chapter IV, to eliminate gender-based discrimination and bridge the gap between men and women. These notwithstanding, there is inadequate protection against domestic violence as the existing legislations do not provide for specific offences with even clearer penalties.
