The study examined the strategies for improving gender equity for academic performance of students in technical education programmes in Rivers State. Two specific objectives and two research questions guided the study. The descriptive survey research design was adopted. The study was conducted in Rivers State. The population of this study consist of 356 students (289 males and 67 females) in four technical colleges in Rivers State. Krecie and Morgan table was used to determine the sample size which gave 186 (134 males and 52 females). Data for the study were collected using structured questionnaire titled: “Strategies for Improving Gender Equity for Improved Academic Performance of Students in Technical Education Programmes”(SIGEIAPSTEP). The instrument was subjected to face and content validity, by submitting to the constructive critics of experts in technical education. The reliability of the instrument was established using Cronbach Alpha method, which gave reliability coefficient values of 0.80, Mean and standard deviation was used to answers to the research questions. The findings of the study revealed that public awareness programmes and mentorship programmes improve gender equity for effective academic performance in technical education. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that administrators of technical colleges in Rivers State should allocate resources to public awareness program, as gearing towards promoting gender equity in technical programmes.
