This study aims to assess the information needs and information-seeking behaviour of female Cassava farmers in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. The study aimed to identify the information needs, information sources, and challenges female cassava farmers face. A descriptive research survey was adopted. The population of the study comprised both literate and non-literate female cassava farmers. A two-stage sampling technique was employed to select the study respondents. The first involved the random selection of 6 districts. In the second stage, 20 respondents were randomly selected from each of the 6 districts, giving a total of 120 respondents. A questionnaire was used to collect data from the literate female cassava farmers while the semi-structured interview was used for the non-literate female cassava farmers. Descriptive statistics was used to analyze the collected data. The findings revealed that female cassava farmers need information on improved cassava stems, current sales prices, cost of labour input, and others. The available information sources, amongst others, include information sharing in marketplaces, community meetings, and personal experience. The challenges affecting their information needs are poor access and unreliable information sources, constant flooding on farmland, lack of government interventions, and others. The study thus recommends that there should be a government initiative that will help provide soft loan facilities to female cassava farmers to enable them to increase their farm size and meet up with the high cost of production and in turn enable them to seek further information.
