This study aims to investigate the current state of electric motorcycles adoption and charging
infrastructure in Kano metropolis, by examining the availability of electric motorcycles and
charging infrastructure, and assessing the role of the electricity distribution company for the
charging infrastructure. Three distinct groups were identified within the study population;
motorcycle riders, motorcycle dealers and the electric distribution company KEDCO. Both
Qualitative and Quantitative data collection methods were employed, where a structured
questionnaire was used to collect data from motorcycle riders and dealers and an interview for
the Electric distribution company (KEDCO). An SPSS software was used to analyze data from
questionnaire with a descriptive analysis while a Thematic analysis for interview. The findings
reveal a limited availability of electric motorcycles and associated charging infrastructure
within Kano metropolis, furthermore, the study suggests that KEDCO’s electricity supply to the
region is inefficient, as indicated by their implementation of load-shedding schedules. This
study recommends the need for awareness and education about the importance of switching to
electric motorcycle and the need for investments in public charging points especially in
commercial zones and residential areas for easy access, lastly the electric distribution company
should be involved in planning and supporting special tariffs for electric vehicles’ charging
