As a precocious introvert, Kabura Zakama started writing poetry at a tender age as a means of expressing himself. He now sees his poetry as a calling and is better known as a promoter of everything literature with a special focus on young writers and writing in indigenous languages. He is a member of the Abuja Literary Society and the Association of Nigerian Authors.
Kabura Zakama is published in several anthologies and his collection of poems, The Man Lived, won the 1999 ANA Poetry Prize. His second collection, Chant of the Angry, published in 2021, was shortlisted for the 2022 ANA Poetry Prize. He has started to dabble into prose writing.
Dr Zakama set up Kairos Tablets and Scrolls Limited as a developmental publisher to facilitate and strengthen the Nigeria’s book value chain through innovate approaches under the unction of …bringing back the book better®.
Born and raised in Garkida, Adamawa State, Nigeria, Kabura Lynn Zakama practised as a veterinarian before building a career in international development and humanitarian practice. Dr Zakama worked for ActionAid Nigeria, Christian Aid, UNDP and is currently the Regional Coordinator for North East Nigeria in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
Kabura Zakama is married to Dr Nana Safia and they have two boys, Aliyu and Ibrahim.
