Development of Integrated Logistics and Connectivity for Accessibility to Primary Health Care System in Kauru Local Government Kaduna State, Nigeria

In Nigeria the Federal Government is responsible for the railways, seaports, maritime, inland waterways, federal highways and pipelines. The State Governments have jurisdiction over intra[1]state roads, inter-state waterways and intercity railway services. Based on 1991 census, Kaduna State has a population of 3.96 people; Kaduna metropolis has a population of 1,007,973 people. In Kaduna State, the early growth pattern indicated a linear shape (north-south axis) from the northern end of Kawo to Kachia Road in the south. Most social-economic activities are concentrated along this linear (major) road. In essence access to medicines is a priority for people in a community. It is supposed to be available at all times in adequate amounts, in appropriate dosage and quality and at an affordable price for individuals and families. Over the years, Kaduna State government had demonstrated its commitment to reforming the health sector prior to the arrival of the Partnership for Transforming Health System (PATHS) Programme since year 2006. The State government had considered the importance of health as part of the social services to the people of the State. Moreover health services delivery organisations all over the world, whether governmental or non-governmental, use logistics and supply chain management system policy and implementation devices to address a number of health service related issues including budget implementation, service delivery, social, economic, environmental. That is why accessibility to collection and distribution of the drugs to communities are essential.
