This research was on Assessment of Distribution of Selected Agricultural Commodities in
Maraban Jos Market, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Nigeria. The objectives
of the study include identifying the nature of agricultural commodities available in the market
and their sources, examining the storage and handling methods used for the products,
evaluating the means of transportation, cost and distances for transporting these commodities
to the market, and assessing the challenges associated with distribution of the products. Both
primary and secondary data were used and analyzed by both descriptive and inferential
statistics. The findings of the study indicated that the sources of grains to the market extends
beyond Kaduna state to other states like Katsina, Kano, Niger and Sokoto. The study also
revealed the existence of different categories of traders in the market of which the prominent
ones were the buyers, sellers, middlemen and agents. The dominant grains distributed in the
Market were rice, beans, corn and millet which were traded in bags and other smaller
measurements. According to the study, there were storage facilities for most of the traders
which were individually provided and managed but of small capacity. It was noted that the
vehicles used in transporting the commodities to the market include pickups, trailers, buses,
cars as well as tricycles and motorcycles with challenges such as cost of fuel, bad roads,
weather, security, and poor road networks affecting the distribution of the products. The study
recommends the provision of modern storage facilities for the commodities in the market,
provision of mass transit system for cheaper movement of the commodities from the sources to
the market, repair of roads and provision of new ones as well as provision and display of
proper address for the market to give adequate information to customers
