Interns on Monday and Chief Executive Officers by Friday: Are Digital Natives Transforming the Library Workplace?

The library and information service industries are experiencing profound transformation in the management of the organization. In this study, the authors examined Digital Natives who are stirring things up in the library workplace. Are these younger employees trying to impose their attitudes and mindsets on the library management or bringing about the transformation of the workplace? How does the shifts in behaviour and mindset of digital natives ‘who expect to start as interns on Monday and be chief executive officers by Friday affect the workplace? The paper recommends that library managers must be aware of the times, and must mindfully change with them. However, libraries and librarians need to make some changes to their mindsets and work cultures. The future is about collaborating across all kinds of borders, including across generational borders.
