Abstract
The textualist turn in statutory interpretation has enormous implications for statutory drafting, some of which are already being explored by congressional and state legislative staff. Most important is recognition, during the drafting process, of how the Supreme Court’s textualist canons will bear on statutory texts and how drafters can write statutes reflecting legislative deals that judges will actually enforce.
