Career Commitment of Librarians: A Comparative Study of Federal and State University Libraries in South- South, Nigeria

This paper is a comparative study on the commitment of librarians in Federal and State universities in Nigeria. A single hypothesis was formulated and tested at significance level of 0.05. The study population is 197 librarians. The entire population was sampled. A questionnaire was administered to 195 librarians. Analysis was carried out using mean with criterion mean of 2.5 such that items below 2.5 were rejected and items above 2.5 were accepted. The hypothesis was tested with the use of t-test for the difference in commitment. The results of the study revealed that librarians in public universities were generally committed to their career, though librarians in State universities are more committed than those in Federal universities. It was recommended that necessary measures should be put in place by appropriate authorities to control the activities of librarians, most especially those in the Federal universities.
