An Assessment of Road Hazard and Challenges in Nigeria. A Case Study of LERE LOCAL Government of Kaduna State

In Nigeria road hazard have become one of the leading causes of death, injuries and vehicle on the road users and economically active adult between the ages of 31-45 Years. This paper seeks to assess road hazard and it challenges in Kaduna State, case study: Sabon Birni- Saminaka road in Lere Local Government Area. The paper focuses on the common road hazards experienced along the study route and how it affects the safety and security of the road users. The paper also looks at the government efforts in reducing road hazards and the preferable interventions needed by people in the study route. A field survey was conducted, 100 questionnaires was administered to the respondents. The data collected from the field were presented in table forms and frequency and percentage were used to analyze them, findings reveal that male are more affected by the road hazard than their female counterpart, the aged range between 31- 45 years are more active on the road and the insecurity experienced along the study route is traced to the availability of several road hazards on the study route. meanwhile, the study conclude that government should sensitize the public on the danger of road hazards, there should be regular road maintenance, mounting of traffic light, construction of proper junction, creation of terminals and cattle route should be separated from the road.
