Assessment of Driver Understanding of Traffic signs: A Case of Lere Local Government, Kaduna State

The study assessed driver understanding of traffic signs in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Nigeria. A total of four hundred copies questionnaire were administered randomly amongst private and commercial driver in the study area. The study adopted descriptive statistics in the stat analysis. The results indicated that majority of the respondents (33.4%), are within the ages of 31-35 years, with significance number (46.9%) had at least 10 years driving experience. Significant numbers (66.6%) of drivers have a basic knowledge of driving with a good understanding of road marking and traffic signs. The study recommended that more efforts should be given to the drivers to increase their understanding of traffic signs this is achievable by the proper use of educational materials such as handbook, posters campaign etc. Government organizations such as Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Police, Motor and Traffic Division (NP-MTD) should be well and adequately equipped to deliver and help drivers with all educational material.
